Nay!

You know how there are all sorts of different stereotypes of kids in grade school and junior high?  Sometimes they even overflow into high school, but you’ve heard of them: the nerds, the jocks, the happy-go-lucky kids and so on and so on.  We all have a prime example of each stereotype in our heads from our past, so I’ll ask you to go back in your head and pull out the weirdo file. Scratchy Scratch Scratch

I’m not talking about having an itch here, nor am I talking about “scratching the record” for all you ix masters out there. No, I’m talking about scratchcards, the kind that you scratch off with a coin to see if you have won something. Or in the case of a department store, you will receive a certain percent off your purchase, or you will find that you just wasted your money and/or time on a stupid piece of paper.

Guest Bloggist Aldrea: The Neopets Economy

It was strange how after all these years I finally realized that it was all a waste. Hours spent playing the games on Neopets, earning 300 here and there, thinking that it was the only way to earn anything, and reveling in the fact that if I slaved away for a few hours everyday for a number of months, I would finally be able to afford that one Paint Brush I had been yearning for. I used to spend hours in that game room, bored out of my mind, just for a little picture of a Brush, and not even to use it eventually, no, just to store it away and keep it forever. (more…)

Scammers, spammers and n00bs

Over the years I’ve learned that there are certain areas of the site that are a good place to hang around, some places that are helpful, lucky, or fun as the site is intended to be. Along with those places, I’ve also learned pages to avoid like the plague, and an entire section of the site, easily accessed, that scares me so much I feel the need to go change my pants. If you haven’t guessed the chilling area of the site that I am referring to yet, it’s the Neoboards. (more…)

Avatars!

I SCREAM, YOU SCREAM, WE ALL SCREAM FOR AVATARS! Where in Neopia did they go? I myself have been deeply let down by the fact that we haven’t gotten a new one since the Darigan Pteri avatar back in November, and even that was pretty easy to get! Avatars have become big on Neopets, for me, and millions of others. In my opinion, they rank above the special sidebars, and just a bit below REAL Neopet flash games. What happened? Why aren’t they being released as much?

My Lenny’s been zapped away!

Ah the Lab Ray, such a fun place to visit with your Neopet. The only problem with the place is that you may go in with a Green Lupe and come out with a Brown Skeith. This was the main reason why it took me so long to get a lab map.

When I started to really get into Neopets, I never really cared about owning a complete lab map or having access to the Lab Ray to zap my pets. This would mainly be because I really loved my first pet, a Kougra, TenchiHawk, and I definitely did not want him changing species. Nor did I want him to change colors unless I was able to choose the color. However, this did happen to TenchiHawk once when Boochi decided to zap him which caused him to change from Desert to Baby, and I really don’t like the Baby Kougra look at all. I didn’t have the Neopoints for a Desert paintbrush (I just don’t understand why they have to be retired), so I settled for a Christmas one instead.

What Are We Advertising?

Before you think, oh well he’s just talking about advertisements, they’ve been done to death, wait a moment and hear me out. Despite the fact that this topic has been steamrolled, burnt, shoved in a bag, left to mold for twenty years, thrown in a vat of acid and buried, the site wouldn’t be complete without it.

Now whilst (I like that word, don’t you?) I’ve heard of many arguments about the advertisements: ‘They’re so annoying’, ‘They take too long to load’, ‘They freeze my computer’, or my personal favorite, ‘They scare me’, none of them actually go into what the actual advertisements are about.

Neoschools

What were Neoschools going to be? The Neopets team never officially released details, but from the small amount of information received, many thought that it would be another way to raise your pet’s intelligence level, that wasn’t from random events or books. There were supposed to be 8 subjects, with 8 teachers. Dr. Ballard would teach Basic Mathematics, Mr. Noakes would teach Starting Science, Mrs. Owen would teach Grammar and Language, Mr. Lubid would teach Learning Art, Miss Matthews would teach Simple Spelling, Mr. Leer would teach Potion Brewing Basics, Miss Stryke would teach P.E., and Mrs. Green would teach Early Neopian History. Nobody knew how these classes would work, or what final exams would entail, all we saw was a page with a list of teachers, and their subjects. They (more…)

Thinking, Unadulterated

As most of those reading this undoubtedly know, the Shenkuu Lunar Festival marked the release of a new feature on the Shenkuu map, part brain teaser, part game. It’s called the Lunar Temple, and it’s a stroke of genius.

The idea is simple enough. A map shows the sun, Neopia, and Kreludor, where Neopia is given a random position, and Kreludor is placed somewhere around Neopia. According to the given information, one must match the phase of the moon (Kreludor) to one of sixteen possible phases, using the angle of Kreludor in relation to the sun to find out how much light is reflected back to Neopia. However, it provides a much-needed addition to Neopets–a chance to think.

Games Room Sweet Games Room

Do you remember the old Games Room? Well, it wasn’t the best looking part of Neopets, that’s for sure. There were four categories of games to choose from (Luck/Chance, Puzzles, Action and Game of the Day) and each category was represented by a graphic. Underneath the four main categories were smaller graphics linking to other areas of the site, such as the Battledome and Stock Market, but for some reason, I never really felt like those links were worthy of being in the Games Room. None of the graphics were that great either, for example, the Game of the Day was too simple for my taste, with the Aisha watching a TV with a game system attached to it (I’m not playing a video game on a TV, I’m playing it on a computer). The whole look of the Games Room was boring, and you just can’t bore (more…)
