There's no such thing as a Neopets money cheat, and no such thing as a cheat that will get you free Neopoints. Here are a few common scams, sometimes called "Neopets money cheats" by the scammers who use them. The best rule of thumb is don't give out your Neopets username and password to anyone. On that note, you should not give out any personal information over the Internet without your parents' permission and knowledge.

Oh, when someone says, "this is not a scam", that should cause a red flag and you should check and make sure everything is right.

Neopets Staff IMing You:

You may get an instant message on a service like AIM, MSN, Yahoo, etc. with something like the text below:

"Hi, my name is Bob and I work for Neopets.com as a moderator. We've selected a few members to take part in a special Neopets bonus for our valued players. First, though, I will need you to confirm your username and password."

This is a total scam. Though we know of quite a few Neopets staff members who do use IM services, trust us, they won't contact you with these requests. Plus, they already know your login information. If they do contact you, it will be through email (when you ask them to, only), or via a Neomail from theneopetsteam.

To avoid this scam: Watch who your IMs come from, turn on privacy for your messengers, don't use messengers, be careful who you talk to over messengers

Fake Login Pages:

A pretty common scam is fake login pages. Check the address bar - only login at http://www.neopets.com/loginpage.phtml.

You may see a page like, http://www.neopets-com.tk/, http://www.neopets.freepages.com/, http://geocities.com/official_neopets_com_login_page, or even like http://www.neopetslogin.com or something of that nature.

Remember, once you enter in your username, you'll see your active pet. Doesn't look familiar? Leave the page. Never enter in both your username and password on the same page - Neopets removed that page a long time ago.

To avoid this scam: Check the URL in the address bar before logging in, watch for your active pet after you enter in your username, be careful!

Free Neopets Money Generator/Neopoint Generator:

Many new players think there is something called a free Neopets money generator or a free Neopoints generator. There isn't. You have to earn your NP the hard way. You may see something like these below, in a guild, a Neoboards post, on a site, or wherever.

"This program is guaranteed to generate 5,000 NP. It works every time. This is not a scam. All that's required is you enter your email address and password for the program to work"

Also, don't try downloading such a program on LimeWire, Kazza, etc. It doesn't work there, either.

To avoid this scam: There's no such thing as an NP generator, leave the page whenever you see a mention of one, don't download things from sources you don't know and trust.

Buy Neopoints on eBay:

It is possible to buy Neopoints on eBay, but there are a few problems. First of all, it's against the rules at Neopets. Second of all, chances are you won't get your NP and then you'll lose real money. Thirdly, even if you don't lose your money, chances are, Neopets will catch you and then you'll get frozen.

Don't even bother searching eBay or any similar site for Neopoints, Hidden Tower items, etc. It's 99.9% likely to be a scam.

To avoid this scam: Don't try and buy Neopoints, follow the rules, use common sense.
